My Fillings at Newport Beach Dental

“Dr. Alder and Dr. Flores are always very perceptive to my demeanor when in the office for a filling.  I am quite nervous when it comes to having dental procedures done.  They are both always reassuring before, during, and after the procedure.  Although I may ask many questions, they always answer very kindly.”

The Why’s And How’s of Tooth Decay

The leading cause of tooth loss among adults is tooth decay. Do you ever wonder how tooth decay occurs? Your tooth has a protective layer of enamel and dentin protecting the nerve and pulp chamber. Basically acids that are created by bacteria in the mouth eat away at these protective layers, forming what we call a cavity. If a cavity is left untreated, the decay will continue deeper into the layers of your tooth which can expose the nerve. Pain as well as extreme sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures can occur when the root is exposed and you will likely need a root canal to remove the infected portion of the nerve and pulp. If you suspect you may have a cavity, make an appointment with us at Newport Beach Dental right away. We will thoroughly examine your teeth for any signs of tooth decay and any cavities that may have formed.

Keeping Your Smile Healthy with Composite Fillings in Newport Beach

In years past cavities were filled with amalgam, a mercury alloy. Today, we consider composite fillings to be not only a healthier option but a much more aesthetic one. Composite fillings are virtually undetectable as they are shaded to match the color of your tooth. Gone are the days when laughing or smiling would expose your fillings, so you can smile with confidence! And if you happen to have an old amalgam filling or two, we would be happy to discuss replacing these with a new composite filling. Your smile is important to us and we hope to see it within our practice often.

Don’t Delay, Cavities Keep Growing Without A Filling

In most cases, tooth decay and the cavities formed can be easily remedied with the proper composite filling. However, if left untreated, the decay will definitely spread. There is no reason to delay treatment as this is a simple procedure we perform often. We will make you feel right at home when you visit our Newport Beach office. We have built our practice on a foundation of great patient care and camaraderie. When you come in, we want to establish a relationship with you and make sure each time you return, you feel as if you are visiting old friends. Our extremely clean and comfortable patient rooms provide a calming atmosphere where you can lie back and watch a movie, while Dr. Alder restores your tooth with a gentle touch. If, by chance, you have put off coming in for a composite filling and the decay has spread, we can still help save your tooth with a more extensive treatment such as placing a crown or performing a root canal. And in extreme cases, where extracting the tooth is necessary, we will carefully guide you through this procedure as well.

Tooth Decay and Kids

While not a practice dedicated strictly to pediatric dentistry, we cater to the special needs of children. We find it very important to start children off right. With each hygiene visit a child makes to our office, we include a demonstration on proper brushing and flossing. Kids will still sometimes forget to brush and tooth decay can happen, so keep in mind there are some fairly new developments in tooth decay prevention for kids prone to cavities that we can discuss such as long-term sealants to protect their molars from getting food particles trapped in the pits and grooves. Above all, we want to make sure your child has a positive experience when visiting our office. The better their first experiences with the dentist are, the more likely they will be to develop life-long good oral hygiene habits.

Like most people I feel a visit to the dentist is usually as enjoyable as a nice sit down dinner with the in laws. I hate going to the dentist. Just the thought is painful to me. That being said I think for the first time in a long while I can say I had a great experience.Immediately I was greeted with a warm smile and a friendly hello. Made me feel at ease. Dr Alder was very hands on in his approach to dentistry. He was kind and actually explained and answered questions I had while he was looking over my X rays...The rest of the staff was very polite and professional and I will definitely be back in 6 months to visit Dr. Alder again. I had been putting off seeing a dentist for a long time but I have finally found a dentist I can trust with my smile.

My wife and I have been living in Australia for the past 5 years and Dr. Alder has been our dentist when we return home twice a year. Last year I was having issues with a molar and an implant dentist suggested an implant. After discussions with Lance on a more conservative approach he gave me the name of a gum graft surgeon. I had the graft performed and still have a healthy molar.  Dr. Alder is willing to take time with his patients and my experience is that he only performs what must be done in a professional and expert manner.

I'm like most people- I would rather do almost anything else then get dental work done. But, Dr. Alder and his staff really helped me calm down and be at ease with every procedure. I've had my share of dental disasters with other dentists, and Dr. Alder has pretty much fixed everything for me, without the pain and suffering! He really makes sure I'm comfortable at all times, and gets the job done as quickly as possible. I am so thankful to have finally found an excellent dentist!

Dr. Alder is top-notch! I will never trust my pearly whites to another dentist! Thank you Dr. Alder for making an unpleasant visit to the dentist much more enjoyable. I am actually looking forward to my next  visit (did I just say that?). Yes, he is THAT good!
